Power off for the creatives in Melbourne as they head out to a design talk by the great man himself; the one and only ‘rock star’ of graphic design, Stephan Sagmeister.

The talk ‘Design & Happiness by Stephan Sagmeister’ was hosted by AGDA and Billy Blue College of Design held at Federation Square in Melbourne.
Sagmeister co-founded a design firm called Sagmeister & Walsh Inc. with Jessica Walsh in New York City.Every 7 years Sagmeister closes the studio and goes on a 1 year sabbatical. During this time he does what Sagmeister does best; explores a concept or theme in the most peculiar, eye-opening, spontaneous way possible.

His most recent exhibition called the ‘The Happy Show’ filled the Institute of Contemporary Art’s (ICA Philadelphia) entire second-floor galleries and ramp, and activated all the in-between spaces of the museum. The Happy Show offers visitors the experience of walking into Stefan Sagmeister’s mind as he attempts to explore the concept of happiness through eye-opening typography and human interaction. He breaks all the rules, questions the norm and shocks his viewers.

Sagmeister believes that ‘design without purpose or function is purely art’, something that our creatives took home with them.
