October Networking

A summary of Industry events attended in October

Published: 4th November 2019

Our talented team of Metropolites have been out amongst the crowds at several industry events over the last month, including Archistar’s Future of Property Development Roadshow, the Sydney Design Awards and the Urban Developer’s annual Urbanity Conference

Along with mingling with many like-minded people, those who represented the team were exposed to marketing updates, new ideas, design, strategies and leading edge technologies. One of Metropolis’ core values is to be ‘Always Looking For The New New’. If a new technology or medium can help your business, we make it our business to know about it.

The personal growth and development of our team is important not only to support our own business growth, but to ensure we can keep pace in such a fast-moving industry and consumerist world. What better way to keep on the ball, then mix with and be surrounded by those juggling them!

Here is a wrap-up of the events captured by our Campaign Manager, Holly Bowler.

Archistar: Future of Property Development Roadshow.
Archistar has developed world-first artificial intelligence that helps property professionals find profitable development sites, assess for feasibility and generate dozens of architectural design strategies in minutes.

On the 2nd October our Head of Digital & Technologies Stephan Lange and Head of Design Matt Cullen, were in attendance at the first session of the National Roadshow where the team at Archistar showcased their new and improved platform.

Ben Coorey – founder of Archistar – presented the keynote to a full-house, updating the crowd of Property Industry people on the recently released features of the platform. This touched on using the world-first parametric design generator in it’s current state, to see dozens of 3D building designs on your chosen block, as well as assessing your site through checking that your designs comply with local building regulations – but he didn’t stop there.

Ben shared that upcoming features to be rolled-out will go even further, to make this process as fast and as efficient as possible…

  • Advanced Property Analytics – Unit Mix, Sunlight and Cross-Ventilation is already available, but soon there will be overshadowing impact on nearby buildings, view obstruction, building separation and 3D planning envelopes.
  • Data Enriched Councils – every council has its own unique regulations and Archistar has started to load council development plans into the platform so you can seamlessly access your sites.
  • All Your Data In One Place – Archistar has partnered with Corelogic, Domain, Nearmap, Cordell and Commercial RealEstate to give you all the data you need to assess your site.

It was an engaging evening with a lot to take back and share with our team and our clients. We continue to look forward to hearing what is next for the platform and the team at Archistar.

Sydney Design Awards.
The DRIVENxDESIGN awards are about celebrating the courage of project creators and recognising the talent, diversity and excellence across Australia’s design industry.

I was fortunate enough to attend this event alongside some of my peers across the Creative and Client Service teams. During the awards ceremony held at Ovolo Hotels in Woolloomooloo on October 22nd, we were delighted to be presented with Silver for three of our recent projects:

  • Dare | awarded silver for Graphic design – Identity and Branding – Property.
  • Arklife | awarded silver for Graphic design – Identity and Branding – Property.
  • Colliers International, Google Video | awarded silver for Marketing – film, video, viral.

The event was an awesome way to mingle with other creatives across the design industry, with a plethora of categories represented and skills highlighted in the prize-winners’ works and projects. Events such as these, are a great insight into how much impact design has on both those working in the industry, as well as the environment and society we live and thrive in day-to-day. Boundaries are constantly being pushed and it’s inspiring to be a part of this both as a fresh face in the industry and as part of Metropolis.

Urbanity Conference 2019.
For the second year running, the team at The Urban Developer put together an amazing line-up of speakers for their two-day Urbanity Conference, MC’d by Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross – Australian comedian, TV/radio host and design-enthusiast – at Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves.

The event was attended by our Business Director, Roni Gasper, and Account Director, Mark Lucas. They both said it was the perfect opportunity to be in the company of industry experts and reconnect with a variety of individuals in the property industry, whom they hadn’t seen or spoken with for a long time.

There were a number of highlights from the two-day event with some key take-aways for Roni and Mark including:

  • Domain is developing a way for vendors to tag images in a listing to serve what the user is looking for. For example, if I want a swimming pool, the listing will show that image first. One day we’ll also be able to apply for, and secure, a home loan online through Domain.
  • Charter Hall presented about using data from office workers’ mobile phones to create an improved workplace experience – everything from our use of energy and printers, through to end-of-trip lockers and on-site food and beverage.
  • BMP has been inspired by Tom Ford to engage potential property buyers through its fashion and lifestyle offering of bespoke suit tailoring, candles and cocktail bars. Their business model pivots on the idea that when people buy into their lifestyle products, they get to experience the style and quality of the brand in the hope it will lead to a property purchase one day.
  • Salta Properties spoke about being in an enviable financial position, to sell completed apartments to overcome barriers of selling off-the-plan. This allows buyers to touch and feel the product and buy with confidence – at a premium.
  • Hmlet is pioneering the luxury, fully furnished, co-living rental market across Asia-Pacific. Their tenants want convenience, a sense of community and flexible lease terms.

So to say it was busy month would bang-on hit the nail on the proverbial property head…You bet we’ll be out and about throughout November too and will bring you all an update following this month’s activities we have on the calendar.
