Mark Lucas

We recent sat down with our newest recruit Mark and spent some time getting to know more about what makes him tick. Here is what we learnt.

Mark tell us a bit about yourself:
Originally from South Africa, I moved to London in my early twenties where I worked in media, marketing and communications, spending most of my time at Edelman in the property team.

After 15 years I moved to Sydney to chase the sun and outdoor lifestyle. Since 2016 I’ve been at Blaze Advertising (recently merged with Mediacom) as Account Director working on a portfolio of property developer clients in a full service capacity.

What brought you to Metropolis?
Metropolis is committed to being the leading property marketing consultancy in Australia. Given the extent of my property experience in multiple countries, I bring a unique perspective across a wide range of marketing disciplines. If feel my experience and the core focus of Metropolis are well aligned to successfully deliver to our clients needs and drive results for them.

What is a recent development project you’ve seen in market that really stood out from its competition and why?
Ed.Square by Frasers Property is putting Edmondson Park on the map, making it an attractive and affordable place to live for many. As with any good marketing campaign, it has developed a strong brand personality, creating a sense of pride for existing and potential purchasers.

Tell us your all time favourite advertising campaign, why do you love it?
British Airways has captured my imagination on two occasions. In 1989, the Human Face ad to the soundtrack of the highly emotive Aria on Airby Saatchi & Saatchi showed how British Airways brings people together in love and peace; and more recently the Magic Of Flying ad by OgilvyOne in London’s Piccadily Circus showed children pointing overhead at passing BA planes to highlight the breadth of its destinations.

What is your favourite down time activity?
If I’m not climbing a mountain, walking my two gorgeous chiahuahua’s (Tank and Spike) or eating burgers and Messina with friends, you’ll find me on the beach.

What is the last book you read?
I’m currently reading ‘Sapiens – A brief history of humankind’ by Yuval Noah Harari. I’m fascinated by how evolution has changed the way we eat, think, act, live, pray, love … Who knows what’s next for us, so I’ll be reading the follow up book by the same author ‘Homo Deus: A brief history of tomorrow’next.

What is a favourite meal you’ve eaten a restaurant in Sydney?
Nomad in Surry Hills never disappoints. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual and the service is fast and friendly. Try the zucchini flowers with truffle honey, chopped eggplant and pomegranate, cauliflower with yoghurt and lamb shoulder. So good!

Unfortunately, there was a fire in the restaurant at Nomad on the 11th of September. Fortunately no one was hurt but the existing restaurant will be closed to under go repairs for at least the next 6 months. In the meantime the team at Nomad have announces that NOMAD* up the Road will be open from today November 1st, and is located at 85 Commonwealth Street Surry Hills.

We are thrilled to have Mark on board and look forward to seeing what the year ahead has install for him at Metropolis, we’re positive it will involve a lot of success.
